AYDAN HILL
ARTIST STATEMENT:
I spent the past 18 months between Boston, Barcelona, Madrid, Rome, New York, Los Angeles, Santo Domingo, Paris, Milan, Venice, Calabria. Collecting memories, experiences, studying artists, visiting museums, collaborating with friends, shooting film, shooting videos, making connections, losing connections. I haven’t been home in over 2 years but I’ve felt home everywhere I’ve been, don’t hyperfocus on that. When I think of this project I think of a collage of my experiences, I also think of those trips I would take as a child, going to the airport in a taxi with my parents at 5 in the morning. I did a lot of that in the past year and a half, but by myself. I find myself recreating and reconstructing what I enjoyed most in those years.
i looked through the 100 headpieces katusya kamo book while eating traditional lebanese ice cream at attelier jolie in soho in new york in august, met daniel caesar at blood orange’s listening party at sugar hill supper club in brooklyn, got a tattoo in milan, saw tyler mitchell’s exhibition in paris, saw lucio fontana’s works in venice, got introduced to mono-ha and jiro takamtsu at bourse de commerce in paris, saw “A panel of experts” by Basquiat in Barcelona. I didn’t really resonate with Joan Miro. I partied with Mitchell at MishMish in Paris until 3am on the christmas night. I recorded voice memos. I had long conversations.
this is my Coming of Age
